Disclaimer: I don’t own Gundam Wing… You people should know that by now!
Recap:
But that moment of hesitation cursed him. Heero was already going over the waterfall when Duo arrived, watching the waters carefully to hopefully see a dark head of hair. When he didn’t find any he looked over and froze as their eyes met for the second time that day. A shock of electricity bolted through his veins as Heero closed his eyes and fell.
“Heero…” he whispered, looking at the waters dully. “Come back to me.”
Chapter Four
A ray of light floated down through the opening of the small hole at the top of the cave. It filtered through the dusty and moist air, landing on two figures at the bottom.
One figure was awake. He looked down at the companion sleeping in his lap and sighed, before looking up at the shining void in the ceiling of the dark cave, causing him to squint his visible emerald eye. He sighed again before looking back down at the occupant on the floor. Oh, the things he would do for the angel who asked him.
Trowa blinked the sleepiness out of his eyes –well, eye in this case– and looked down when he heard a pained moan come from the youth. Pursing his lips, the emerald-eyed man sighed before poking the other person in the stomach. His reply was mumbled and… weird.
“Fuck you.”
Trowa stared at the person. What kind of response was that?
“Maybe you should get up before you make any hasty decisions,” he said, giving the other man a sideways look before standing up to check on the outside of the cave. His bones popped from the sudden movement and he winced slightly. He shouldn’t have stayed in that position for so long. His sore and aching joints practically scraped against each other as if to protest movement. Well… Trowa thought about that for a moment. It wasn’t like he could blame them after last night.
Blue eyes snapped open when the owner heard a different voice. Stilling all movement, his eyes looked around until he saw an unidentified man stretching. That’s when things got a little hectic.
Heero sat up and stood, glaring at the man. “Who the hell are you?” He looked around and snapped another question. “And where the hell am I?”
He suddenly appeared behind the emerald-eyed man, his hand forming into something like a claw as he whispered dangerously, “And I suggest you tell me before you die.” Trowa sighed, and gracefully danced away as he turned around to face Heero.
“I go by the name Trowa. I found you in the river going downstream and pulled you into this cave. I’m glad you didn’t get hypothermia.”
Heero looked at him strangely before wiping all the expression off of his face. It was bizarre when someone said they were worried for you with such a… vacant face. He blinked for a second before turning around and heading for the mouth of the cave. He didn’t want to stay longer than necessary, and he knew that those guards would come here sooner or later to try and find him.
Blue eyes narrowed slightly when he heard footsteps follow him. He turned around to see Trowa looking at him with his vacant face.
“What are you doing?” he asked impassively.
“Following you.” Was the only reply he got back.
Heero swallowed his sighed, continuing to look at the strange man named Trowa before disappearing into the bright light that was at the opening of the cave. Trowa quirked one of his eyebrows silently before following the dark-haired youth out into daylight.
Outside, Heero looked at his surroundings with a critical eye, face stony and body language relaxed. Trowa looked at him for a second, wondering where the temperamental youth he had seen back in the cave had gone. A rustle in the bushes made them tense but soon a flurry of a thing that could only be called a rabbit came hopping up to Heero with a sniff of its pink nose. Heero looked at it for a second before walking the way the rabbit had come, ignoring both the white bunny and Trowa who were following him silently.
He pushed his way through the ridiculously strong plants with a glare and stopped only when he heard suspicious sounding rustles that didn’t come from behind him. He did that for the rest of the morning and afternoon, refusing to slow down or give any attention to the currently-drinking-water Trowa, who offered some to the little rabbit that kept on following Heero too.
Blue eyes surveyed where the person was, carefully looking for any signs of earlier travel. As he scanned the area, his eyes honed in on a suspicious looking white cloth and he bent to pick it up even as the little bunny sniffed at it with a curiosity that made him almost quirk a half-smile.
Looking down on it, he had to have his doubts as he slid the material between his fingertips. He brought it to his nose and gave it an experimental inhale before grimacing. For the first time in hours, Heero looked back at Trowa and silently held out the cloth, wordlessly asking what he thought about it. Trowa looked at him for a second before picking up the strip, studying it closely.
While Trowa looked at it, the bunny seemed to be smelling something close by. Heero watched closely as it sniffed continuously at a spot on the ground. He concealed his surprise when he noticed that the patch of dirt was slightly darker than all the others.
He walked to it silently, his eyes narrowing warily as the bunny hopped behind him, as if using him as a shield. Bending over, he rubbed the dirt with his pinky finger a little bit before raising it to see what was on it.
Imagine his surprise when it came out to be red.
Blinking at the stunning sight, he looked at the patch of dirt more closely and realized that there were several smaller patches like the one in front of him leading to the big bushes close by.
“Don’t.”
Heero turned his head slowly to Trowa, who shook his head at him.
“If I can guess what you’re thinking right now, it’s better to not check. It could only put us in more danger.”
The only reply the dark-haired youth gave Trowa back was the slight narrow of his eyes before turning back around and approaching the bushes with more silent steps. He shook off the slight fear worming its way up his stomach and took in a deep breath before looking over the bushes. At first he didn’t see anything, but then as he started to turn he saw something shine dark brown in the corner of his eye. Heero looked back at it with a blink.
It was almost as dark as the ground, and was a few yards away, which was probably one of the reasons why he couldn’t see it. It was underneath another row of plants, protruding slightly. As he ignored both the look from Trowa and the little voice in the back of his head, he went over to look at what it was.
As he looked over the plants once more, he practically fell back in surprise as he stared at a ragged and torn and still wet with blood white coat.
What the hell?
